13/11/2010 Stevie G's Roxy reunion, O2 Academy

Recommended Posts

Went to roxy night with my other half and couple of mates, really just one disappointment, looked forward to it but was just let down, atmosphere was ok but not brill, just seemed like one big half hearted effort.

Im not a kill joy and dont get out as much as id like to but the music/band was ok and looked like at least they were tryin, wish id gone for a night at the dogs and the casino after instead now.

And ps..... £16.90 for 4 bottles ( sorry plastic things) warm at that is disgusting.

****ANYONE THINKING OF GOING AT XMAS ...I HOPE YOU GET BETTER VALUE FOR MONEY AND ENJOY IT MORE THAN MY GROUP X xxxx

I went, along with 5 other ex Roxy's Regulars. Gutted to say the least. Place was heaving and everyone was in high spirits but it just doesn't come close to how it used to be. The O2 is designed as a place for concerts so the place is so dark and kills any nightclub atmosphere. For want of a better printable word, the place is a sh*t hole. The carpet was disgusting and the dancefloor was horrendous. I suppose we were all expecting it to be a glammed up place these days but what a shock! Roxy's was a palace compared to how the place is now. We'd have been better served having a Roxy's Reunion at a proper club or at least get a team of cleaners in to clear up the sh*t on the floors. Overpriced drinks, no food available - not even a bag of crisps.

Im sorry to hear of the bad experiences had above,i personally thought the band were great and gave a true performance of the original songs.

I suppose Roxy's was open for a few years and saw a few music styles come and go, so it would have been hard to cover all the bases but they had a go.

As i remember Roxy's from the 80s the carpets were mostly sticky and the place was as dark this time as i always remember it being.

I chose to act and have the same expectations as i did in the 80s and wasnt disappointed at all,if it had been cleaned up as suggested and brighter then it just wouldnt have been Roxy's would it?,i cant personally remember the last time i had food in a nightclub, thats what the chippy at the bottom of the ramp was for!.

Im 40 by the way,how old are the other posters? time has moved on and we are all more sophisticated in our tastes and expect more in general but if you had actually been transported back in a time machine but stayed the age you are now i doubt youd have enjoyed it either.

I do however agree with the drinks being a little expensive but then again they are in every nightclub in town so no great surprise there, thats why we all used to go round town and get hammered before we went in wasnt it.

I had a great time and will be going on boxing day and having a good time like last time. Then again i am an 80s throwback and choose not to grow up!! lol

There was also no seats to even have a sit down for 5 minutes!! I know in a night club you want to dance but when a crap song is on and you just want 5 minutes there wasnt anywhere!!
