Jabberwocky 46 #30 Posted July 19, 2010 Chaucer decided to have the hymn " to be a pilgrim" for some reason and I still remember all the words. This was between 1966 and 1973 I remember that! I also remember Mr Crowe singing `To be a pillock` in assembly.
 Share this content via...
Vague_Boy 10 #31 Posted July 20, 2010 Herdings Junior school had the motto "and with joy we'll persevere", which was carved into a piece of oak that was hung up in the assembly hall. I suppose that would make the school song "Jesus, good above all other". When we sang the final line, we were expected to turn and face the wooden plaque. Jesus, good above all other, gentle Child of gentle Mother, in a stable born our Redeemer, give us grace to persevere. Jesus, cradled in a manger, for us facing every danger, living as a homeless stranger, make we thee our King most dear. Jesus, for thy people dying, risen Master, death defying, Lord in heaven, thy grace supplying, keep us to thy presence near. Jesus, who our sorrows bearest, all our thoughts and hopes thou sharest, thou to man the truth declarest; help us all thy truth to hear. Lord, in all our doings guide us; pride and hate shall never divide us; we'll go on with thee beside us, and with joy we'll persevere! But here and now in battle Of ardent work and play Up College bravely plying Like men of sterling mould With valour still keep flying Our star-lit Green and Gold” Pretentious? Cliffhanger 10 #33 Posted July 20, 2010 (edited) And this is King Ted's: ..Tempus est ut concinamus, quicquid Edwardensium, ..nunc adestis: hoc sit omnis thema nostri carminis: ..qualis est qui cuique nostrum semper aemulandus est? ..Ille verus Edwardensis, quisquis humani nihil ..a sese alienum putabit, usque consors ceteris ..sive gaudebunt secundis seu laborabunt malis. ..Strenuus labore mentis, corporis non neglegens, ..omnium sententiarum perspicax inquisitor, ..semper artium bonarum pervicax videbitur. What a load of crap.. I much preferred the alternative version, which started 'We must go down to the Don again' but I'm not sure we can publish that on a mixed company forum like this Edited July 20, 2010 by Cliffhanger
 Share this content via...
