Motorbike help or advice needed!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I have a Chinese Import bike that was put away for the winter and I have just took it out to use for the summer...but it doesn't work. I charged the battery and for a second it turned on, but failed again. I bought a new battery and now the front and back lights are on, but I can't switch them off. There don't seem to be any electrics when I turn the ignition key.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be? Has anyone had this in the past? I am booked at Manhattans on Monday but if it can be diagnosed or fixed before then I'd really rather not take it in!

All help welcome!

Thanks a lot

Joey

Sounds like the ignition key switch is faulty, is it one of those types where you switch it to position 1 and the lights come on, then turn to position 2 to start the engine? Your lights not going off suggests the switch is fused in the '1' position, I'd use a multimeter to check the wiring around that area. If you can by-pass ('hot-wire') the ignition circuit & it starts up, it's almost certain it's the keyswitch.

That's great...The ignition switch is what was suspected our end - it seems a little loose as well. It has a few positions and then a push switch to turn on the engine...but to be honest I have never had a car or bike over here I wouldn't know where to start! I spoke to the chap in Manhattans and he said he will have a look at it but prob won't be able to get parts - it is just worrying me since I bought it spur of the moment last year without really looking into it more - my bad I know!

Are manhattans good - they're just down the road from me so are more convenient for pushing a big lummox of a bike there!

I think the problem could be that it is Chinese.

Actually.. joking apart... try spraying WD40 into all the electrics.

No, go to a bike parts shop like Sid Smiths or Armando's, they'll check it out and sell you the right part.

It is a Znen cruiser 125-6

Cant find any info on that particular bike, apart from basic spec - does it look like this one :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2005-JINLUN-JL-125-11-BLACK-SILVER-IDEAL-LEARNER-BIKE_W0QQitemZ190387482763QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Motorcycles?hash=item2c53fa708b

If so, a lot of companys supply this model, but re-brand them...there is also an owners forum where you can get loads of help and advice.
