Wing Chun Kung Fu

Does anyone rate it as a good method of self-defence (rather than sport)?

Bruce Lee used it as the basis for his martial arts development......

Wing Chun is among the best (depending on the teacher and student) but you need dedication. Is it self defence though? They hit pretty hard.

...and then decided that JKD was a better idea.

Hmm

You could say its not the style that is a good self defence method but the student and teacher ( how its taught and how the student trains)

there are a few factors to consider when asking if a certain style is a good self defence method:

Including students; age, weight, height , gender, how they train, mental attitude.

example could be if a 6ft doorman( who often finds himself in the middle of fights due to the nature of his work) practices tai chi is it the tai chi that has improved his self defence skills or just the fact that he is a hard ba****d.

JKD is Jeet Kune Do, a fighting and philosophy system founded by Bruce Lee.
