'Question Time' Event, March 15th 6.30pm, Richard Roberts Theatre, UoS

Recommended Posts

I hope this is the right place to post this, but I just wanted to let you all know about a special ‘Question Time’ event taking place being held at the Richard Roberts lecture theatre, University of Sheffield at 6.30pm on Monday 15 March 2010.

The event will be attended by a wide range of individuals from the community. We would also be delighted if you could join us for a complimentary glass of wine at the drinks reception from 6pm.

In the style of the BBC’s Question Time, leading thinkers and experts will engage with audience questions related to issues such as:

• The war on terror, both at home and abroad

• Religion and society

• The elections and contemporary politics

• Privacy and public interest

• The environment and climate change

Speakers will include: Dr Rhiannon Vickers, senior lecturer in politics, University of Sheffield; Kim Knott, professor of religious studies, University of Leeds; director, AHRC’s Diasporas, Migration and Identities programme; David Harsent, award winning poet and TV scriptwriter; Dennis Hayes, Professor of Education, University of Derby and founder Academics for Academic Freedom; Austin Williams, director, Future Cities Project (chair).

The event is organised by the Institute of Ideas Debating Matters Competition and Research Councils UK Global Uncertainties Programme and will create a space where ideas can be argued for and fought over without constraint. In the spirit of Institute of Ideas events, free speech is allowed!

Tickets are free, but due to phenomenal response, tickets are limited. To avoid disappointment, contact Helen Birtwistle to reserve a place: helenbirtwistle@instituteofideas.com / 020 7269 9220.
