xsf7 Â Â 10 #37 Posted September 5, 2008 So Cole Bros are staying put on Barkers Pool then? I wonder what they will do with the old fire station once the new one opens, will they demolish it and leave the site empty or leave it up to be vandalised?! pininsho   10 #38 Posted November 1, 2008 http://www.sheffieldtelegraph.co.uk/news/Sevenstone-plans-hit-trouble-in.4647207.jp It seems like the latest slightly remodelled designs still aren't up to the standards set by the new council regime. Personally I'm impressed by a council that seems to have high standards architecturally and aren't prepared to shift until developers achieve those standards themselves. Certainly, as far as I'm concerned the proposed replacement for the Pepperpot building is nowhere near good enough.
 Share this content via...
Alastair   12 #39 Posted November 1, 2008 I don't understand why they can't preserve the pepperpot building and work around it. I hope the listed Bethel School can be saved too.  Isn't the whole Sevenstone development on hold anyway?
 Share this content via...
pininsho   10 #40 Posted November 1, 2008 I don't understand why they can't preserve the pepperpot building and work around it. I hope the listed Bethel School can be saved too. Isn't the whole Sevenstone development on hold anyway?  I think the term is; 'it's been delayed due to the economic climate.' This is obviously an excuse to either; 1/Pull out of the scheme altogether and blame the council, using them as a scapegoat rather than accepting that if they do have to cancel the scheme then it's due to the economic climate and nothing else. or 2/Hammerson see the present economic climate as a good opportunity to cut costs in the scheme further so we end up with an even bigger featureless mess than their developments in Manchester and Birmingham.  I think 2 is the most likely. pininsho   10 #41 Posted November 3, 2008 The funniest part of Hammerson's statement was that they had consulted with the public and the designs apparently had 'overwhelming public support'. I can tell you now, I spent many hours on each day the public exhibition of Hammerson's plans were on display and the overwhelming feedback of talking and listening to people and eavesdropping on their comments was that the majority of the scheme was abyssmal. It got so desperate that at one point Carolyn Kennedy (Hammerson representative) came over to me to ask my opinion (as I seemed to be one of the youngest people at the exhibition she obviously thought I would have a more 'modern' outlook on the proposals) her face and general manner dropped quite noticeably as I 'let her have it with both barrels' leaving her in no doubt that this pile of hyped up garbage was nowhere near good enough for this city! It's funny how she didn't approach me again after that! Can't imagine why?
 Share this content via...
KATIEB_23 Â Â 10 #42 Posted November 3, 2008 Has anyone got access to any proper visuals of this scheme? I've looked on the Sevenstone website and the only visuals they have in the 'design' section are 10-second-doodles http://www.sevenstone.co.uk/design.php  Only what's been in the Telegraph. I think Hammerson's are wanting to keep as much of it under wraps as they possibly can. If you want an idea of what the main entrance will look like take a look at the Bullring in Birmingham (another Hammerson's development) and that should give you some idea. http://www.nathlio.com/pictures/uk_ireland_trip/DSC02532.jpg http://image69.webshots.com/669/5/57/4/2053557040104277666MPxgeh_fs.jpg http://image72.webshots.com/172/6/36/72/2815636720104277666ZfUnHZ_fs.jpg
 Share this content via...

Funny how that's not been brought to people's attention if it's correct!
 Share this content via...

samstar999 Â Â 10 #48 Posted November 3, 2008 Thank you. And yes. I agree. Â I have to say that the 'current economic climate' couldn't have come at a worse time for poor old Sheffield which. it seems, will end up with a lot of cut price developments. It would appear that developers will want to minimise costs and therefore cut corners. (St Paul's Tower anyone?). The SCC will have to accept the cheaper options otherwise we'll end up with loads of unifinished builings as developers cut their losses.
