As far as phoning home, well yes it does.

 

When I installed Chrome when it was first released my Firewall kept saying Google wanted to connect to the internet, even when the Chrome browser wasn't on.

I blocked it, and sure enough the Firewall alert box would pop up at regular intervals telling me Google had tried to connect to the internet but was blocked.

 

Well as one of the comments said on there

 

'Once money starts slipping out of my bank account, then I will be worried.

For now, they are just seeing what porn I look at…'

This is set to on by default so a vast amount of people using chrome would be non the wiser.

 

Sure you can diable this feature, but I wouldn't trust a browser that sneekily tries to track your surfing habits.

this is because it installs GoogleUpdater along side chrome, which remains on your system even after Chrome uninstall...

Is this not just an option that can be disabled during installation?

 

I don't know.

 

Are you using a non Windows firewall.

 

If you are then you can set it to block the Google updater.

 

If you are using Windows Firewall then you would be non the wiser as it doen't block outgoing traffic..

Yes, you can have as many browsers as you want really.

But it's totally unnecessary.

 

Other browsers update themselves when you open the browser.

 

Google doesn't need to go on the internet to look for updates every single time I put on my computer.

I've found Chrome to be a pretty decent and fast browser and I prefer it over Firefox.

 

My browser of choice is Opera though, I think that it is far better than any of the browsers that I have used.

I prefer Firefox but that might be because I haven't learnt all the functions of Chrome yet. I use Chrome quite a lot though still. Can't stand Internet Explorer.
