jessycar   10 #1924 Posted February 16, 2014 I'm needing someone who can fix a dormer roof on a terraced house. Water is coming in damaging the walls in that room and the ceiling of the room below. Ideally I need someone who can fix it all as I'm going through my insurance.  Thank you.
 Share this content via...
evildrneil   14 #1925 Posted February 16, 2014 Hi We have just had some double glazing fitted and used Mark from Bluestone UPVC. Very please with what we got and the price we paid. Mark and the guy who came out to fit the window are lovely blokes and cleared everything up after themselves. Highly recommend them. The numbers are - 0114 287 4024 or 0772 0916825  Thanks very much - I'll give them a try  ---------- Post added 16-02-2014 at 16:09 ----------  While I'm on this thread! Micky ET   10 #1926 Posted February 16, 2014 I would highly recommend METGAS plumbing & Heating. They were brilliant when we were left in a real mess with no heating or hot water after a gas pipe was damaged by a company doing some work on our house. They came out could not do the repair same day due to time, but left us with portable heaters and arrived promptly the next day. The lads were brilliant, professional and efficient the quality of their work was very good and thorough. They identified a fault with the boiler which they rectified and the hot water and heating is so much better now. Wouldn't hesitate to use again.  Thanks for the recommendation  Mike
 Share this content via...

adamwillan   10 #1930 Posted February 18, 2014 Hi  I have recently purchased a victorian end-terrace. On the front and side of the house there is a concrete render that isn't in great shape. The issue is that due to its lack of breathability the parts of the inside wall that I can see are completely damp. On one part of the door the brick is falling away in the inside where there is a gutter on the outside.  For the long term protection of the house the render needs to come off but I'm unsure of who to ring who would specialise in dealing with removing the render, and then either re point, or rerender in lime if the brick is in a bad way. Also want to understand options for external insulation etc  I have got lots of work to do on the house, so if anyone can recommend a good building firm who understand the way old houses work and need to be renovated, it would be appreciated!  Thanks in advance  Adam
 Share this content via...
shamal12 Â Â 10 #1931 Posted February 18, 2014 (edited) This company did my neighbours house last year - and made a very good job of the work! Â http://www.wfpointing.co.uk/ Â Also, for info have a look at: Â http://www.bricksandbrass.co.uk/ Â Chris is a very knowledgeable guy and should be able to give you information about internal/external insulation - he did some work for me last year, and is a forum member. GerryBooth   10 #1932 Posted February 19, 2014 It is unlikely your bricks will be in good condition after render removal. Regarding a re-render lime will certainly help with breath ability but as to what type of lime render will need some consideration. There are now more advanced modern render systems on the market and all offer breath ability to some degree. Even a insulated render system can be lime based if required.  Try J A Briggs at http://www.rendermaster.co.uk he covers all aspects of the rendering market be it traditional, modern, insulated or lime.
