A good Sheffield (or surrounding area) ironmonger

I'm looking for an ironmonger who stocks stuff a bit more interesting than the bog standard lines in front door furniture

 

I've been to Shaws off Queen's Road, but (aside from them sneering about ordering in 'premium' products ), they don't keep such items in the shop - so it's a bit of a wait for them

 

I know it's a long shot, but if you know anywhere...

Ironmonger is a bit of an archaic name these days, and I assume you don't mean the big diy stores, so can you be a bit more specific? What are you looking for?

I need a letter box and matching door handle to suit a victorian/deco style door, but being the awkward person I am, I'm looking for chrome rather than brass... and it's for a wooden door, so not one of those coloured aluminium flimsy things

 

We live where it's windy quite alot, so a number of the designs I've seen and like aren't suitable as they're 'gravity' flaps instead of sprung ones

Id suggest the iron mongers(called frenches i think) in eckington, not far from sheffield and he really knows his stuff!, really old fashioned kind of place

Going back a bit on what I said about "ironmongers", there are some architectural ironmongers in Sheffield. There is also the specialist door suppliers (where much of the trade goes) opposite Tesco on Infirmary Rd, I just can't remember the name.

Yes that place is worth a look. It's called something like "Home Decorations DIY" but it seems to major on doors and related bits.

 

The door place on Abbeydale Rd also has stuff which might suit.
