I do hope that's ironic??

I was thinking the same as well, because thats the last thing we need. :)

Of course it, I can't think of anything worse than being subjected to drag "entertainment" for an evening.

It would be really nice if there was some gay groups or socials that have nothing to do with pubs/booze/clubs/sex.

No really -- Is there any way to mix with gay men where pulling isn't on the menu?

I organise an annual Gay Arts Festival; most other cities the same size of Sheffield has one, and such an event is intended to show that there is a lot more to Gay Culture than booze/sex/clubbing/middle-aged boybands!

PM me if interested in taking part or helping.

...Just a few reminders tonight:

The SHOUT Gay Mens Health Group meets as usual tonight 7pm, for a discussion/workshop on (as far as I remember) 'Self Confidence' in relationships, etc.

Tomorrow, August 20th is CLIMAX, the theme is GLEE, and as an extra-special treat, yours truly invites everyone down to CLUB XES beforehand from 10 pm to celebrate a certain birthday including a performance from the Birthday Girl, who will also be going onto Climax at midnight.

Finally, DONCASTER PRIDE will be on THIS SATURDAY August 21st, at Doncaster Racecourse, Please note there is a small entry charge at £3, but for that you get a great day out with live entertainment, a market, and various events such as a DRAG QUEEN RACE at which you can cheer on your local hero(es), and to cap it all, an after-party until 3am with Climax DJ's.

Enjoy your weekend!

Hey, we agree Sheffield has more to offer, and that it's not so much venue as opportunity that's missing. We are setting up an LGBT networking group, and we would love you to be a part of it. We are going to offer something for the LGBT professional crowd that is missing right now, and that's a chance to meet like-minded LGBT professionals who believe that there is much more to Sheffield than the train links to Leeds, Manchester or Birmingham. Check us out at Sheffield-outofoffice.co.uk, and register your details to keep updated as we announce our launch night.

Hope to meet you all very soon.

Excellent idea, there is nothing worse than meeting a hot guy then finding out the has a crap job, or (quelle horreur) no job at all.

We've had a great response so far, but there is a long road ahead. Please keep registering, it's everyone out there who will make this a success. The gay scene as it stands is not everyone's cup of tea, but everyone wants to meet new people and expand their social circle. We want to offer this to everyone. If anyone has any suggestions for future events, let us know. We're also now on facebook, search for us.

Most people never have that thought cross their minds; is it a LGBT thing?

Ade65, if you read this thread, and also the very long gay scene thread that preceded it, you'd see Sheffielders have a few venues to choose from, but these are not to everyone's tastes, and over the last 10 years or so we've seen gay venues move from being based in Attercliffe, to coming into the city with varying degrees of success. Bar Dempseys, Lions Lair and Xes, few venues have been able to sustain, particularly in the current economic climate.

those cities mentioned have managed to grow and weather the storm, and have developed what are crudely termed "gay villages", which are clusters of bars, restaurants specialist shops and cafes with an LGBT focus. When it comes to choice, Sheffield does not compete just yet. But as we say, there is no need for us to just accept stand grab a season ticket on the trains out of town. It's about time we think outside the box. That's exactly what we hope you'll all help us do as we move Out of Office forward.

So in answer Ade, I don't think it's exclusively an LGBT thing, I think gatecrasher going means a lot of people go elsewhere for their nights out, but in this community if you want more choice, people have long looked out of city for just this.

I think some people would never consider Sheffield as an LGBT destination. At all. And that does need addressing, as Sheffield does have a lot to offer.

Bright Phoebus is a new folk club night at The Boardwalk - very gay friendly. The next guest is Chris While (gay) and her daughter Kellie While next Monday 6th Sept. There's morris dancing, and support from celebrity All Stars (Martin Simpson, Jon Boden (of Bellowhead), Fay Hield and loads of other folk lovelies.

It'd be great to see some people there xx Tix from we got tickets . com
