Team 'Who Gives A Crap'?

Recommended Posts

So reading the Twilight thread and it seems that the level of American influence over our language is growing.

Can someone explain to me why you need to be "Team Edward" or "Team Jacob"? Why can't you just say you're for one or the other without all the Americanisms?

And can any females actually review the books/films without mentioning that any of the charaters are "fit" etc?

Personally i just throw in the Americanisms as it annoys the hell out of my boyfriend! :hihi:

As for using the word "fit" in film reviews of course its possible to avoid, especially in this case. Jacob isn't attractive and Edward isn't "fit" more beautiful as he's a bit feminine looking.

That's why I put 'etc' at the end. No females seem to be able to review the films without mentioning the attractiveness of any of the characters.

I could understand it if it was a porn film... :hihi:

 The people who watch the Twilight films have usually read the books where they enjoyed the story and there are no visual characters to become attracted to so you can't really compare. The fact that people may find one of the actors attractive is just a nice bonus.

I didn't go to see the film because of how people look in it.

I do it because A) I'm American, and B) it makes my husband chuckle.

He responds with a quote from Raj on "Big Bang Theory": "With your American accent, everything you say sounds stupid!" :hihi:

They don't, but that's not my point...

That's why I love the Big Bang Theory - they tell the truth on so many levels... ;)

You'll have to explain, because I don't understand what makes "Team (X)" an Americanism. I thought the whole "Team Jacob"/"Team Edward" thing simply originated from the adversarial relation between the two characters.

It's not like Americans go around saying "I like pie - go Team Pie!" ... ;-)

I suppose you can imagine the response my husband gets when he quotes that line. :P
