BigTeeOwls   10 #1 Posted January 20, 2010 Picking up my 9 weeks old Red male Chow at the weekend, i cant wait.  Does anyone know any good Vets who have experience dealing with Chow Chows? I've heard some vets instantly put Chows under anesthetic when tending to basic procedures. Chows don't cope well under anesthetic, so for that reason i would like to register him with a Veterinary that understands this breed more than most.  Also pet insurance! Can anyone recommend?  Thanx
 Share this content via...
xmoonshinex   10 #2 Posted January 20, 2010 try taylors / spire at newbould very good and well established
 Share this content via...
SpeedDemon   10 #3 Posted January 20, 2010 ah wow, they're beautiful! Don't forget the photos when you get him! I'd go with Spire vets too. For insurance, try animal friends. They donate all their profits to animals rescues
 Share this content via...
willman   10 #4 Posted January 20, 2010 Please stop sending everyone to Spires - the queues are big enough already.  Seriously though they are good , i can also recommend my local vets4pets.
 Share this content via...
SpeedDemon   10 #5 Posted January 20, 2010 lol willman! I can also say vets 4 pets at millhouses are fabulous, but spire is so much cheaper - as long as you're prepared to wait in their queues
 Share this content via...

BigTeeOwls   10 #7 Posted January 20, 2010 Thanx everyone.  Waiting on Peak Vets in Woodseats to get back to me.  Vets4pets! i thought they would be expensive?
 Share this content via...
SpeedDemon   10 #8 Posted January 20, 2010 I think they ARE expensive, but thats only comparing them to Spire, which is the other vet i use, and they're really cheap. Lots of people on here recommend Peak, but I'm not sure what their prices are like in comparison
 Share this content via...
Strix   11 #9 Posted January 21, 2010 Peak have four different vets you can choose from, and most importantly for us, they cover their own out of hours service rather than using that abominable vetsnow 'service' at attercliffe which has no access to your pets records  Don't forget that just because a vet has a couple of chows on its books doesn't mean its doing a good job with them! The best people to ask are probably breeders in the area  contact the breed club and ask to be put in touch with a couple
 Share this content via...
nox2693 Â Â 10 #10 Posted January 21, 2010 I would never use anywhere else other than Peak now, they have their own out of hours service which you see one of the regular vets, they open for a few hours on saturdays and sundays and the staff are really dedicated to their work. They also do early morning appointments right up until 9pm at night. Â All of our (very large) menagerie are registered there and we have been going since they very first opened (about 5 years ago) and never had a bad experience with them. Â Thanx i have frenchies and bordeaux dogs which can be funny with anesthetics i would recomend chapelhouse vets in chesterfield they are experienced with these breeds and chris mann is a country known vet people travel for miles away to see him, with a specialist breed you need a specialist vet hope that helps
 Share this content via...
