Mandem   13 #2 Posted January 20, 2010 My Dad and brother were both NCB workers, my Dad hated Arthur Scargill but my brother was a follower of him. It caused a lot of upset in our house, and when the strike was over, as Arthur said, most pits were closed and my brother lost his job. My Dad was an engineer and near retirement so he wasn't affected as much. I lived in Eckington, and it ripped the heart out of that community. Draggletail   52 #3 Posted January 20, 2010 (edited) The photo of local women Leslie Boulton about to be clubbed around the head by a mounted policeman. A policeman did tell me the photo was a 'fit up' - what he didn't know is that I knew both Leslie, and the photographer, and fully believed their first hand accounts. The photo, and BBC article here Edited January 20, 2010 by Draggletail link formatting
 Share this content via...
