Sheffield mentioned on 8 out of 10 cats.

No! Not after my last experience at a certain practice that is always taking new NHS patients on the Abbeydale/London Road junction. It was the dental equivalent of A&E on a Saturday night.

You could always go to A&E on a Saturday night for your dental care...

But £5+ a packet doesn’t but people off

Free check-ups, free doctors prescriptions, ah the good old days, lets go the whole hog and give the kids a little bottle of milk at school as well, then again its free laptops they want these days isn’t it.

To be fair Malky, not many people are addicted to going to the dentist.

Giving children bottles of milk makes perfect sense, giving it to all people does to be honest.

Good for teeth, good for bones, good for farmers etc.

Let us not forget the horrible waste of milk which took place in Belgium less than a year ago.

We all need milk, it would make more sense to be in control of our own supply funded via our taxes at xp/L , rather than have farmers going bust, producing milk at 27p a litre and being paid only 10p per litre on farms with modern infrastructure.

The farmer is making a loss, the demand for the milk is there, common sense dictates the demand and people are paying a whole host of different prices for the same commodity, the commodity production then suffers as corporate entities exploit it for all they can.

Because its too expensive for the smokers, sugar addicts etc. of Sheffield on their below average wages to afford dental care.

If Sheffielders have the most fillings presumably they can afford dental care.

It would depend on whether that was the most appropriate/cheapest treatment, and whether or not they paid for it, or paid for it privately. The proportion of Sheffield workers to 'social security' claimants receiving dental care would be an interesting statistic.

If we decide to give free milk to people who wish to take care of their teeth, we should give free fags and sugar to those that don't.

Isn't this the point of living in a democratic society where we are allowed to make our own lifestyle choices?

The sugars and the smokers pay the same taxes as the milky’s, if not more.

The government put a strain on the NHS. The NHS is for the people, paid for by the people, to serve the people, whatever their lifestyle choice! :)

We have something in common, We both hate labour. But I still hate smokers. I came on the PC to do my tax return, easily distracted.

Democracy

It would be better to encourage a healthy lifestyle than a bad one, rather than punish a bad one to encourage a healthy one.

Quite right. Punishing a bad lifestyle is a direct attack on our freedom of choice.
