How to promote Sheffield?

Recommended Posts

Big advertising board with the words "It's not Rotherham" should do the trick.

Rock climbing and music, friendliness and green spaces.

Try the Go Sheffo website (can't post links yet - try Google) for an excellent take on what's great about Sheffield.

Or Toddla T's music guide to Sheffield for a good intro to music from the Guardian website.

Good luck!

Well Sheffield is the national centre for sport in the UK I believe, someone might correct me on this but I thought this was the case.

How about blocking all access to this forum to anyone from outside Sheffield? That way all the nay sayers, defeatists and whiners could go about their usual business on this forum without potential visitors getting the impression that Sheffield is populated by Neanderthals who hate their city.

What about those of us who do live here but still think it's hell on earth?

Hi, I'm an international student in Sheffield, and my recent program is to plan a PR campaign to promote Sheffield.

And I really want to find something special in Sheffield (except steel)that can attract people's eyes from all over the world.

Can anyone tell me valuable ideas that really can bring a great promotion of Sheffield?

Thanks,

YAN

Hi YAN, Read the above bold. Seems to be a good enough opener to expand on!

I wish you well with your studies. :)

Two oldest football clubs in the world, and the oldest football ground.

I have a copy of Sheffield - City On The Move. The full promo video from the 70's which was edited and shown in a short clip at the beginning of The Full Monty. It's a reight laugh and like a bad porn movie. Maybe best avoided because it bangs on about steel, cutlery and the now derelict park hill flats......

But.....Sheffield is famous for steel, cutlery, the Park Hill flates were the biggest urban development in europe (love them or hate them, they are apparently important...uff) Don't forget the music and the musicians as mentioned before by Kiwiowl. Further to that, it was in Sheffield, after a gig, that Elton John was persuaded to go solo.

The Co-op first started in Sheffield (oooo exciting). And we even used to make our own cars. There is loads to praise Sheffield for. Do some digging, you'd be surprise!

Of course you cannot fail to mention our world record for having the most dangerous, poorly maintained, badly lit, poorly marked, and quite frankly shi*iest roads in the western hemisphere! Not to mention the biggest population of benefit claiming, work shy, unclean, uneducated, inebriated, dope smoking, scum bag chav youths in the UK?
