Marber   10 #109 Posted January 13, 2010 Our bins have not been emptied for 2 weeks. During that time I have not taken my car out neither have a lot of our neighbours. We live on a narrow that has just one track for people to come up and down. The only things moving on it successfully are 4x4's. I do not blame the bin men for not risking our road I won't so why should they.  They are doing their best. I have only been out to walk the dogs and it was hard work walking in the ice and snow. I cannot imagine how hard it is to be out in it all day.  Same with our post the odd day has been missed but it is taking them twice as long to do their rounds. mediman   10 #110 Posted January 13, 2010 I just cannot believe some of the idiotic replies to this thread, just what do you expect the binmen to do, hover above the snow and ice ?. Has anyone thought of the carnage etc that could happen if one of these vehicle went out of control on the ice and snow. It beggers belief the whinging some people are doing regarding their bin collection, it's not as if it's going to start and smell you out of house and home in the cold weather is it. It's not as if they are deliberatly not collecting the bins, there is a genuine reason for it. Stop and think about the people of Leeds who went weeks and weeks without a bin collection, in warmer weather when the rubbish did start to stink. If your that desperate to clear your rubbish and have a car and want to risk the road conditions, get it into the back of your car and take it to the dumpit site. mrsb73 Â Â 11 #114 Posted January 13, 2010 I'd be happy to move my bin and my neighbours to the end of the road where a main road is safer for the bin wagon to stop, then the binmen could empty them all there at once. I wouldn't be happy if the wagon came on my street in icy conditions and smashed into my car! I think they are doing the best they can in difficult circumstances, I'm sure they will get emptied in the end :-)
 Share this content via...

Draggletail   58 #116 Posted January 14, 2010 As of today: IMPORTANT INFORMATION: YOUR BIN COLLECTIONS  13 January 2010  Ice and snow on side roads and footpaths continue to be a problem for our crews and their refuse collection vehicles, with the added problem of black ice in all areas of the city.  Bin collections have been suspended today, Wednesday 13th January 2010. Residents who are due a black or blue bin collection today should place their bins at the kerbside as normal for emptying on Saturday 16th January.  If your black bin collection was missed Monday 11th or Tuesday 12th January, please place your bin at the kerbside tomorrow and again on Friday (if they have not been collected Thursday) and we will try and empty them. We will take extra bags of waste placed at the side of the bin.  Green bin collections have been suspended this week to prioritise the collection of black bins. If you have a green bin due for collection Tuesday 12 – Friday 15 January, please do not put your bin out and check your collection calendar for the next scheduled collection in February.  If your blue bin was not collected last week, please return your blue bin to your property. We have been unable to empty it this month, please check your collection calendar for your next scheduled collection in February where we will also take extra waste if placed in cardboard boxes or neatly bundled with string.  Veolia Environmental Services and Sheffield City Council would like to apologise for the disruption to the service and thank you for your patience during this severe weather. note that they WILL take bags not in the bins, unlike normal.   Thanks for posting that auto98uk, very useful
 Share this content via...
