bridgetdoman   10 #28 Posted April 22, 2016 (edited) I guess he would be about 60 now. Anyone that frequented the 60's pubs that had discos or live music will have seen him at some time. Trust me, if you'd seen him in those days, its not likely that you would forget him in a hurry....he was quite a character.  I knew Melvin years ago from around 1970 and used to dance with him (and without) as a go-go dancer at various venues. I also danced at the Black Swan in late 1971 for DJ Ray Stewart (Stuart?) among other places. Melvin sadly died Christmas/New Year time 2012/2013 I think it was. I went to his funeral at City Road. One song played was Dancing Queen, which I thought was rather appropriate. Edited April 22, 2016 by bridgetdoman Forgot to add something about Melvin. My wife was also a dancer on the 'go-go' circuit, which was another reason why I posted about him. I guess you may have known one another.........   . reg1 Â Â 10 #32 Posted April 28, 2016 I remember being in the taxi queue at Fitzallen square late at night must of been the late 70s and there was this bloke in front of me with a suitcase with what looked like a dress partly hanging out. I said in fun your dress is hanging out and the comments he gave me and what he would like to do to me in a sexual way. We had a bit of banter and a laugh going and then one of my mates who I was with told me who he was and me also being called Melvyn for weeks after that my mates pulled my leg over it all Mel
 Share this content via...

S A Andy   10 #34 Posted April 28, 2016 I'm sure it was him that I saw in the Marples Pub around 1971. Myself and my pals all thought it was a stripper with a hell of a figure, until the bra got removed!
 Share this content via...
bridgetdoman   10 #35 Posted April 28, 2016 I remember (go-go) dancing one night at Wednesday's club but a very long time ago, probably Melvin was part of the troupe. He would never like to offend anyone, not on purpose, just have a laugh with them, so if he did he would apologise profusely. He would make sexual remarks to both male and female, he wasn't bothered. It was Sheffield's loss when he went. One hell of a character.  ---------- Post added 28-04-2016 at 22:30 ----------  Handypandy.
