spindrift   10 #13 Posted December 18, 2009 Isn’t this nothing more than a cultural tradition use westerners do not understand and therefore should leave well alone?  Brian Taylor is a westerner.    The cops are sometimes reluctant to get involved in domestic disputes, with the tragic consequences we've seen. boyfriday   21 #14 Posted December 18, 2009 Come on, these practises cannot be allowed to continue. .  ..the practice of murder was never allowed Grahame, but that doesn't prevent some citizens from breaking the rules.
 Share this content via...

boyfriday   21 #16 Posted December 18, 2009 Tulay Goren’s death is probably just the tip of a very large iceberg. But is 'honour crime' any business of the wider, majority community ? Should minority cultures be allowed to follow their own mores irrespective of the legal system under which they live ? After all these crimes—forced marriage, imprisonment, torture and in extreme cases murder—do not present a danger to the wider community.  ..so should we turn a blind eye all to all instances of domestic violence because they dont present a danger to the wider community? boyfriday   21 #17 Posted December 18, 2009 C'mon BF. You cant put your spin on this one.  ..was just following your earlier example BB  Just 1 a month? Well i think thats a conservative estimate if ever there was one. Probably more like now they cant deny stuff like this goes on they are heavily playing down the stats to make it look like its a smaller minority than it actualy is. Grahame   10 #19 Posted December 18, 2009 ..the practice of murder was never allowed Grahame, but that doesn't prevent some citizens from breaking the rules.  So you agree that when people "break the rules" the due process of law takes over and ALL people are prosecuted under English law.  Isn't that right boyfriday? . mj.scuba   10 #21 Posted December 18, 2009 The law will never be a deterrant to somebody that's motivated to murder their own offspring. In essance the communities in which these killings take place need to make the change to their own culture themselves, no easy task. All that can be done is keep investigating the murders, keep prosecuting the perpetrators.
 Share this content via...
