The mysterious disappearance of Hopman from these pages.

Recommended Posts

Some may have noticed that in recent times I've not been that active on this section of the forum. The reason is not that I've broken the end of my pencil, but I've found another outlet for my writing.

Some of you may have noticed the plea a couple of months or so ago:

Since that time, I've had three pieces accepted for recording. The latest was recorded this week along with pieces by other writers.

From what I've heard, there are some very talented writers and performers out there, and there's some entertaining stuff to be found on the podcasts from Cornucopia.

So that's were you've got to! Glad to hear you & your pencil are OK.

I'll have a look at the Cornucopia site soon, are you listed under your real name or 'Hopman' or another pseudonym?

I'm listed under my real name.

Shortly after posting the above I received a PM which I quote here:

Hi Hopman

Nice to hear where you've been recently! Tell me, which one of your sketches was recorded this week? The strange thing was, I believe I was there at the recording!

Kind regards

Perhaps I can help. Hopman (Andrew) has broadcast two peices so far. One called 'Urban Voice' & one called "Junk the Junk". As we speak I'm currently editing his third peice, "Radio Emergancy"

You can hear "Urban Voice" by using this link:

cornucopia-radio.co.uk/urbanvoice.mp3

The peice was broadcast as part of our 'Halloween shows' and was heard on a number of stations around the world.

A lot more material is set to be recorded in the new year, with a whole host of new writers and perfomers from across Sheffield and the UK. Also With an increased focus on getting the work broadcast on as many platforms as possible.

Later,

Pete

Nice one Hopman, you made a cracking job of that, spoken with feeling, it’s quite hard to put feeling into the written word. Well now we can put a voice to a name “An Urban Voice”.

Over the weekend I will have a browse on cornucopia-radio.

Thanks for that.

Sorry about that Hopman, I see it was performed by Carol Mac.

Re: Radio Emergency which was mentioned above. The consensus at the recording was that the best line in the piece was a profanity. (I couldn't possibly repeat it here!)

One of the most recent submissions was the following:

http://sheffieldwriters.ath.cx/SFStoryArchive/1261665122.doc

It's Safety itself which is an unexpected visit from a Health and Safety Inspector (Henry Stevenson).

Some of you with long memories may remember the advertising hoardings a few years ago which read "And now for Britain itself." which were actually advertising Elf petrol (And now for Britain, it's Elf). What I've done in the title is to adapt this idea:

It's Safety, it's elf.

to dig at the "Elf and Safety" brigade.

I shall enjoy reading this Hopman (cough Andrew) :)

Make that September 30th.  There's a football match on Wednesday night they want to cover.
