'club' acts from the early '60's

Does anyone out there remember a local club (as in working mens) group

Pat Leslie and the Greycats? They played all the (then) prolific WMC's in

the Yorkshire and Notts. area. Their set was cover versions of all the

current pop hits of the time.

Main rivals on the circuit were the Whirlwinds featuring a femail lead singer

called Georgia and a young guitarist by the name of Bobby Knutt, who

apparently went on to better things !!

Pat Leslie sings with a group on a Saturday night in a pub in Lodgemoor - top of Crimicar Lane way - forgotten name - I've put it on another thread a while ago. Keyboard player in the group was in the Greycats in the 60's. I saw them on stage at the Butchers Arms, Braithwell about 4 years ago. Great show. Worth a visit if you live nearby. Shiny Chef I think.

Good to hear Pat is still with us and treading the boards ! She must

be pushing it a bit now though - but then so is Dame Shirley Bassey !

Do I take it that you played keyboards with the band at some point?

That makes two of us !! Lineup during my stint - Herbie Gorman (sax)

Dereck Petch (lead guitar) Kevin Baines (singer/guitar/bird puller !!)

another Dereck on drums, who's surname I can't remember yours

truly and Pat !! (circa '61/2)

would be good to see Pat again, but don't think we would recognize

each other !! GOOD LAUGHS

Barry Holmes moved to the Greycats about 1963 I think. He's the one who's on keyboards with Pat probably tonight. Wish I wasn't 80 miles away or I'd go.

mikeG - correct Barry Holmes took over from me !! He bought my band suit from me !

Pat didn't appear at the Shiney Sheff last night - when I intimated to the landlord

she was booked to appear he had a bloody heart attack !! He however was kind enough

to call her and I spoke with her for some time. We could have run up a massive phone

bill after 45 years - anyway she is next booked to appear at the venue on January 23rd

next year ! That was from the horses mouth.

Regards

I used to work with Bert (Herbie) Gorman on the telephones side of the GPO.

Of course we used to go and see him play occasionally.

He could certainly use the saxaphone and they were a great group.

Is he still accompanying Pat Leslie?

Pat said when I spoke to her she has a couple of sax players, but don't know

if either is Herbie - he was at that time 'the old man of the band' so if one of them

is him no doubt he will leave his zimma frame at the door!!

We've booked in at the Fulwood Inn for 2 nights Jan 23/24th so we'll be up there. Is there still a 51/Lodge Moor bus to get on in Broomhill that would drop us by the Chef? - then get taxi back.

I also worked on GPO/BT where I knew Bert Gorman, I also played with Bert in the 'Sounds 40' Big band.
