i remember when i was a kid we used to see him quite regularly getting his grog in the dram shop on commonside.

I remember listening to him when I was younger, in my twenties I think. I lived with my dad and step-mum at the time. Anyway, I listened to Roger Moffat as I was in a body cast and couldn't do much more. He kept me sane as I could hardly move. I thought he was the best DJ I'd ever heard, his jokes and humour was hilarious and still do.

Roger was the final ever broadcaster on the old BBC "Light Programme" before it was rebranded as Radio 2 in the Autumn of 1967

He actually said, the morning after the news of Elvis' death, that he [Elvis] should be stuffed and placed in the Radio Hallam reception.

 

Remember that well the next day a bus load of Elvis fans turned up to lynch him ... dint bother him his sense of humour was second to none in the 70"s a group called Department S had a hit record with* is Vic there * he doctored it to "is rog there" and blasted it out all day every hour on Hallem:hihi:

The funniest thing I remember about him was, many years ago, he was to read the 'look north' news, the camera panned to him sooner than he expected. He had his feet on the desk, and was smoking a fag!!! Bet the move he made then was the fastest he ever made..................!!!

Hi, used to love listening to Roger Moffat thought he was awesome, however I worked at the time at Curtis Records on the Moor, he came to buy records and was such an arrogant t---t that I never listened to him again.

Wow, now that's going back... Curtis Records, where McDonalds became... I used to go into your shop in the middish 70's.

 

I'm sure "our" Rog didn't mean to be arrogant really. He might have been having a bad day!

Hi Millsands, Thanks for directing me to u-tube it was nice to hear those broadcasts again and a question for you, why dont we get disc jockeys today who play gramaphone records on the wireless ? I think people of my age group used Roger as a pick me up tonic.

I was looking through the threads and saw this about good old roger :hihi::hihi:he was often found in the Mulberry tavern Brahms and list :hihi: I remember the comment he made about Elvis people had been calling Radio Hallam all day and I nearly fell of my chair laughing when he came out with the comment I dont know why we dont have Elvis stuffed and put in Reception .I thought now thats going to cause trouble and sure enough it did a load of teddy boys was waiting outside Radio Hallam to give him a good slap but the police had escorted him out of the building an hour earlier .

I remember Hallam starting around the same time that I left school and started work at Walsh's. A few years later I frequently assisted in carrying Roger home from his and my local the Bridge Inn at Ford (he was usually swearing profusely by this point!). I also remember being invited to Ray Stuarts house at Crookes on a few occasions which was always teeming with lovely girls!
