Where can I buy a nice piece of hardwood?

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know of anywhere in or near Sheffield where I can obtain a nice length of quality planed chunky hardwood, preferably oak, with which to build some shelves?

I'm fed up with the ones I built out of cheap pine, and the ones in the DIY sheds are an insult to my taste.

I tried the usual suspects, Lavers, Greshams and Timber Specialists, a while ago with no luck, so open to any suggestions.

TIA

Try Ecclesall Woods sawmill- if they don't have some they might know where to get it.

Well Hardwoods are available at a variety of dealers but remember they will cost in the region of £60 per cubic foot and extra if you want it planing to size

So for rough cut timber thats £60 plus vat generally for a board 1 inch thick 12 inches wide and 12 foot long which sounds a lot of wood but isnt when planed up....

Try Craft supplies at bradwell

Boddys at boroughbridge

turners retreat at bawtry

they all sell english hardwoods
