Best 3 in a row on any album

Recommended Posts

I reckon The Sprawl, Cross the Breeze and Eric's Trip on Daydream Nation is one of the best 3 in a row on any album. its a great album even though it has its not so good moments but those 3 tracks together are great. What are your 3 in a row favourites?

Elvis Costello - My Aim is True. Opening three tracks.

1. Welcome to the Working Week - a storming first track, with one of the best opening lyrics on a debut album ('Now that your picture's in the paper being rhythmically admired...').

2. Miracle Man - continues the theme and the style ('I could tell you that I like your sensitivity, when you know it's the way that you walk').

3. No Dancing - a little slower but no less bitterly frustrated. This is a superb performance.

Welcome To The Working Week

Miracle Man

No Dancing

Elvis Costello. My Aim is true.

Done and dusted in seven and a half minutes. Just the way music should be.

Edit: I thought I'd beaten Hecate to it. Obviously not.

Costello is vastly overrated.

Costello is vastly overrated.

Some of his later stuff isn't up to the standard of his earlier work, I agree.

Off the top of my head....

She Bangs the Drums / Waterfall / Don't Stop

Son of a Gun / I Can't Sleep / Timeless Melody

South Central Rain / Pretty Persuasion / Time After Time

Black Dog / Rock and Roll / Battle of Evermore

Misty Mountain Hop / Four Sticks / Going to California / When the Levee Breaks

So what?

Within you Without You / When I'm 64 / Lovely Rita

Really!

Good to see early Elvis Costello rated highly

There's loads of "three in a rows" on his first four albums.

This morning?

1. Monty's Jurassic lark

2. Monster killer-mix

3. Thin at one end, fat in the middle

From Tartarsaurus by Doctors of Dub. Bit of a cheat as it's not strictly and album, these being the only three tracks.

Sgt Pepper's / With A Little Help From My Friends / Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds

...or, of course, WALHFMF / Lucy / Getting Better

or, of course, Lucy / Getting Better / Fixing a Hole

or, of course, Getting Better / Fixing a Hole / She's Leaving Home

or, of course, Fixing a Hole / She's Leaving Home / Being for the benefit.....

Seems too easy!

How's about Fairport Convention:

Come All Ye / Reynardine / Matty Groves

Or Bellowhead: Rambling Sailor / Jack Robinson / Copshawholme Fair

Or Kraftwerk: Autobahn / Kometenmelodie / Mitternacht

Or Bat Out of Hell / You Took the Words ... / Heaven can wait

?

Erm ...

...am I cheapening this?
