omg yes they had the fish and chips ever i used to go in there shop from well as ealy as i can remember but yes always for some reason knowns as bells but remember them as if it was yesterday she was a smaller lady than him had lovely blonde curly hair he was taller with brown short hair style always had a smile for all customers lovely memories j

 

I remember the fish and chip shop owned by Mrs Bell during the 40's. From memory it was between Milford and Carbrook Sts on Attercliffe Common. We used to get or fish and chips there or from Matthews fish and chip shop on the corner of Cartonville Rd and Attercliffe Common opposite Janson Street. Mrs Bell was a friendly blonde woman who always had a word or two for her customers. Whether this shop later became Lants I don't know.

Does anyone rememer 'Doreens' hairdressers at 142(?) Attercliffe Common? Her husband wass called Bill Shaw he was a builder and built Memmotts hairdressers suppliers at Hackenthorpe. She also had a shop on the Pavements at Park Hill flats.

yes my brother lived on kings lake street my gran lived on collerage rd next to kirbys shop

I was born on Stamford street in Brightside, which never had owt much in the way of entertainment, aprt from watching the smoke coming out of the steel works chimneys. But the Cliffe was our entertainment capital, There was the Globe, and the palace picture places, and the gaumont, and one on Staniforth I forget what it was called. There was the Attercliffe Palace for the best variety shows around, with a supper of pies and peas from outside. There was even a swimming baths and a roller rink. The last time I was back over in 1989 a lot of Attercliffe Road and Common had been knocked down to make way for a dual carriageway,

 

The pictures on Staniforth Road was the Regal, there was also the Pavilion before the Globe and the Adelphi was just passed Newhall Road.

The yodleing coal mr freeman Harry Crooks the shop keeper and many more Went to Huntsmans Gardens school then Hartley Brooke what a wonderful era to be born in hard but fair

Anyone remember the Ducker family? My dad was the youngest of the lads, Les Ducker.... Anyone remember them??

 

hi i remember the duckers used to go to woodbourn road youth club wiv sue nd jane.playing table tennis wiv sue . jayne came to my missus funeral in oct last year. was gr8 to see em again. stuart used to knock about wiv my brother raymond sutcliffe im gary think they will remember me.u ask em .

I understand from my older sister that Mrs Bell who owned the chip shop was a very attractive lady. I was born in 1944 so I guess it would be the 50's when I was old enough to go on my own. At this time it was owned by Mr & Mrs Lant but was still mostly referred to as Bells. I was brought up on Melville Road off Carltonville Rd and I used to take newspapers to Matthews chip shop and Mrs Matthews used to give me pie and chips in a dish. Do you remember just after Carbrook Street was Jacksons chipshop also known as Whitehouses, where abouts did you live?
