JoaquiNation   10 #26 Posted July 15, 2005 I think the fact Sheffield is dead in the summer is something that is commonplace in most large cities in England. Here in London you can tell when the students have gone because the weather improves and you no longer have eye candy when you're out'n'bout on a Friday/Saturday night! Fareast   10 #27 Posted July 15, 2005 I wonder where the missing students go to ? Maybe abroad ? Surely most of them return to their home towns and cities , in which case you'd think the streets would fill up a bit with local students on holiday. Then again , they might all be locked in their rooms , studying feverishly for next terms exams. They must go SOMEWHERE ; after all the number is roughly constant. Wow!  Do you think those facts are directly related, so...  ...even the sun avoids students...  ...or maybe it's just the clouds follow them "home" (wherever that is).
 Share this content via...

Zebra   10 #30 Posted July 15, 2005 I seem to remember that the student population accounts for 50% of Sheffields overall population or some similar sort of thing. So, if there are people working, commuting and studying surely it would be quiet, plus most people will be rushing home to enjoy the four days of summer we'll be getting for the forthcoming millenia
 Share this content via...
UnkleBob   10 #31 Posted July 16, 2005 another factor for the city emptying may be that lots of factories and businesses are moving out of town to the industrial estates on the outskirts of the city.
 Share this content via...
