  1. 1. SHOULD LIFE MEAN LIFE?

That may be the case for a very small number of people.

Can you post a link/proof that locking people up for longer works better? Do you agree the USA system is very poor?

I have no problem with life meaning life whatsoever for the ones who deserve it, but sometimes the Americans take it too far, depending on the State, of course. There was a case in Texas a couple of years ago where a guy ran up 7 drunk driving charges, never killed or seriously hurt anyone and he got a life sentence. Now, I know drinking and driving is very bad, especially so many times but life in prison is a bit much. There was a case in Ontario last year where a young guy who had been drinking and driving 60km over the limit and killed 3 small kids and their grandfather and seriously injured the grandmother and he only got 10 years. One extreme to another eh? Of Ontario and Texas are not in the same Country but c'mon....

As crimes go it has one of the lowest recidivation levels of them all.

They're often crimes of stupidity and lack of forethought. 20 years later, it's a totally different person that is being released from jail.

Yeah, sure, given my often murderous motives and clear views about lax sentencing for car drivers it could easily be taken out of context. :suspect:

What recourse do you think you'd have?

And if you wouldn't be okay with it, why do you think that the death penalty is okay?

The same law that passed a wrong death sentence.

There's nothing wrong with a death penalty if it's deserved, but for the handwringers and trolls like yourself a full life sentence will have to do.

There is of course plenty wrong with it, not least the fact that killing people because we think think killing people is the worst thing you can do is morally and logically indefensible.

The dead victim of a murderer does not get a second chance, why should the murderer be given a second chance. You kill in cold blood, you are incarcerated until you leave in a wooden overcoat.

The ex homeless piece of dirt Aaron Barly who murdered the people who tried to help him has been given life but must serve a minimum of 30 years, should he have a chance of walking our streets again.

He should walk to the electric chair before walking the streets - what a pity we don't have it for dispatching trash like him. And one of the murderers of Lee Rigby is wanting £25,000 compensation because he lost a tooth in a brawl with prison officers. The trial and proceedings will cost around £100,000. The police should have finished him and his accomplice off there and then and saved us, and Lee Rigby's grieving family, a packet, plus the latest heartache.

Much as I would dearly love harm to be done to some of the despicable scum of society that commits acts of outrageous torture and murder, two words prevent me from wanting them executed ...... Timothy Evans.

The tone of this thread is a classic example of how we are so behind the curve of a developed society compared the the Scandinavians and some of our continental European cousins.

They have proven that rehabilitation works and they can be successfully reintegrated back into society.

No, life shouldn't mean life unless there are exceptional circumstances.

How much more exceptional than the op case do you want? he should never be released.

Specifically what recourse do you think you'd have under the law?

Nothing wrong apart from the fact that innocent people get executed.

What about people who kill because they're really angry?
