Motorist to pay court fees even if found not guilty (GREAT Britain!!)

I was amazed to come by this article, especially not having heard anything on the news. It makes me wonder what illegitimate practices the government will steam roller through next. Anyway i`ve signed the petition for what its worth.

I understand the idea of paying fees if a court case is lost, but paying the fees when you win just seems so wrong.

No objection to folk getting back legitimate fees, but many lawyers are milking the system - which at the end of the day means you and me as taxpayers end up footing the bill.

This change will stop aquitted motorists from getting back anything in costs.

Which means that the poorer motorist will be unable to afford to defend themself with representation in court.

This will have a knock on effect with insurance companies adding more onto premiums to cover legal costs will it not?
