Anyone worked at Firth Browns?

Recommended Posts

Looks to me like some kind of a locking mechanism that maybe controlled by a thermocouple???

Latest thinking is that it's something to do with the woolen or rope making industry, smowls. The 'handle' on the LH side is in fact a hexagonal spigot. The spindle on the RH side has a hole in the centre, which some rope or wool could be threaded through to the elongated slot on the spindle. The thread could then go through the loops on the piece of rod, attached to the rear of the object.
