"Naked" scanner to go on trial at airport

Recommended Posts

It sounds like a better alternative to getting a Marigolding. :P
that should be the use of this system, for people that they already suspect of sticking things up where they shouldn't, but not for every joe public just going on a 9.99 Ryan air mystery tour

How will it improve security on flights? You mean it might stop all the

thousands of hijacking incidents we have every month?

If it stops one it's worth it.

When was the last plane hijacked or bombed with an item small enough to be cancelled under clothing and not detectible by other airport scanners?

The point is, it would stop someone if they did decide to do this.

I don't care in the slightest.

a) the picture isn't in enough detail to be pornographic

b) they will be changing quickly, no time to photograph them

c) do you really think someone looking at thousands of neon green naked outlines of mostly ugly people every hour is going to be getting off on it?

d) you can choose not to go through it

e) oh no. A security man might see an outline of my penis. He might realise I'm a freak for having a penis. No other men have penises. What will he think? etc...

If it gets me through the line quicker and I don't have to mess about removing belts and shoes then I really don't care if a bored man briefly sees a faint outline of my genitals. In fact, if it knocks ten minutes off the time I have to wait in a security line behind families of scousers flying to Magaluf then I'd quite happily remove everything and he can examine my **** personally.

As much as I'm against identity cards and all those other horrible privacy destroying IT projects, I see very little wrong with this. It's clearly a better solution than frisking people, much quicker and more reliable. If anything, I'd consider it less invasive personally

On a related point, on a recent trip to Thorpe Park, I was subjected to a much more rigourous 'random security check' than I ever have been in an airport, but I think that's because they were after knives rather than bombs maybe?

These are already in use in Schiphol. In my experience they increase waiting time. They also still insist on you taking off your coat, belt etc So they seem like a waste of time to me.

I know. That's why I don't see the point in these machines. The article on the BBC says the machines should remove the need to do this.

:D

Although you make a very valid point that highlights the absurdity of something like this to improve security.

When you break your arm please ask the doctor to twist it and poke it until he finds the fracture as those machines are really expensive too.
