However, I could be bothered to ask.
 Share this content via...

Maybe I'm mixing him/her up with someone else. Or maybe I'm just as silly! or as ******! Edited October 6, 2009 by *_ash_*
 Share this content via...
liquid_pig   10 #17 Posted October 6, 2009 Fishermen dont do what they do 'in the name of our country'. And they get paid a darned site more than a squaddie. Our armed forces are there to defend US and by calling them 'our boys' is just showing a little appreciation for a job well done.  So doing a job like THAT,getting sod all money for it makes them feel better once you say to them "your my boy you are, your my lad". It certainly makes me want to join up:rolleyes:
 Share this content via...
zongamin   10 #18 Posted October 6, 2009 In real life, no one does, only the ignorant right wing tabloids, pandering to their semi-literate readers.
 Share this content via...
blockhead   10 #19 Posted October 6, 2009 If we called our fighting women..."Our girls" I'm sure women would tell most men to ***k off and stop being such a sexist patronising ***t! Men are men, women are women.   Boys n girls play in the playground...not on a battlefield.  Tell that to the kids in Afganistan and Iraq, i sure they would be pleased about that. boyfriday   21 #24 Posted October 6, 2009 These days ,no I couldnt handle the training...thats why its the best army in the world....and our lads  They are undoubtedly the best army in the world, populated by professional, well trained and motivated individuals, but like the OP, I've often wondered where this faux 'ownership' comes from.  It's patronising and paternalistic in my opinion, we should pay them a proper wage and give them the right equipment to execute their job properly instead of relying on their good nature and appreciation of being referred to as 'our lads/lasses'.
