What's it like working for Sheffield City Council?

Recommended Posts

Not including the current issues surrounding the pay review :\, could anyone tell me what it's like working for Sheffield City Council. Does it vary depending on what grade you're on?

Thanks:)

Probably depends on which bit you work in, to be honest. But one thing that's probably universal is that you feel like a small cog in a very big machine. Sometimes that's difficult if you've been used to having a lot of control at work, and things are quite regimented when you work for the council.

From my point of view it could be worse, could be better. They've got some good family-friendly employment policies.

It depends which department you're thinking about working in. Overall, councils are very good to work for. Good pensions and benefits

Depends where you are working and with who. I found the boredom terrible and found that you either spend half your time doing other persons work (this is if your are dedicated and care!, but dont worry, that will soon get knocked out of you by the system) or motivating other workers who tend to spend most of their working hours looking for ways to avoid what they are paid to do. The council system tends to demotivate workers and to drag everyone down to a low standard and idleness.

Some council jobs are a doddle compared to the private sector. The pension scheme is so good people are reluctant to move so become robots in their jobs.
