Dronfield incinerator proposals - all discussion in this thread

Recommended Posts

On Sunday night BBC Look North had a feature on the Campaign Against the Incinerator proposed for just a few miles from South Sheffield (very close to Green Hill, Low Edges, Norton, Meadowhead, Batemore).

To watch the film please use this Utube link:

For anyone concerned with the proposal who would like to know how they can obtain more information and express their views (time is running out) please see: http://www.againstincineration.org.uk/

Whatever you think of Dronfield residents, the emissions from the incinerator will not respect town boundaries. In other words, this will affect everyone (irrespective of income or class) who live within a radius of at least 5 miles of the proposed incinerator.

All the talk of class and 'posh' areas is ridiculous. It's going to affect South Sheffield as a whole at some point so if you are concerned, show your support and if you aren't then just keep quiet instead of chirping on about class and wasting everyones time.

It's good to see people concerned enough about the area they live in to take action!

y should people who are for the incinerator keep quiet just because they rile you they are still entitled to an opinion and a choice!

I'm sorry, but why would anybody be for such a thing?

Final decision meeting confirmed – 1pm, on Tuesday 19th October, at County Hall Matlock. At this meeting Derbyshire County Council’s Planning Committee will decide whether or not to refuse or approve planning permission for the hazardous waste incinerator on Dunston Road Chesterfield.

We need everyone concerned to attend the meeting on the 19th October, so that the councillors realise that people have not forgotten about this issue, and that after 2 years of waiting the opposition against this proposal is just as strong.

You are advised to get to the meeting early as parking nearby is limited and to car share as much as possible so that everyone who wants to can get to the meeting. We have also booked coaches to take people to the meeting – please call Liz (evenings, after 6pm) on 01246 238409 to reserve a space.

March against the incinerator

Please meet at 11am on Saturday 9th October at Dunston Hall Garden Centre, Dunston Road. We will be making a peaceful demonstration/march along Dunston Road, towards Whittington Moor roundabout. If you can’t get to the Garden Centre please join us as we make our way down Dunston Road. We need to remind the Council that even after 2 years the volume and strength of opposition has not gone away!

Be there, bring your friends, and bring your banners!

This sounds like a Done Deal from the start. Derbyshire County Council headquarters are based in Matlock. I just wonder what they would have done if Cyclamax suggested putting an incinerator on their doorstep?

This lethal thing will affect Chesterfield, Dronfield, parts of Sheffield and goodness knows where else, should the wind blow in that direction.

I did hear that Derbyshire County Council "invited" bids for this incinerator some years ago, so that says a lot about their crap slogan, "Improving Life For Everyone". Yeah, if you live next door to County Hall...

Perhaps DCC should consider a revised slogan of "Making Locals Life A Misery..."

Well done to the people in Chesterfield and Dronfield who have formed the opposition group to this hideous proposal.

I can't be bothered to read through 9 pages of posts, but weren't our 'Cleaner, Greener, Safer' city council now accepting other cities' rubbish to burn? Can't D'arbyshire county council just their waste up here to Shiny Sheff? We won't complain much.

Haven't people from Dronfield and Sheffield a potential claim against Chesterfield if this turns out to be actual damage to health. Chesterfield people voted this council in so they probably wouldn't be able to claim since the council were acting on the voters behalf, but this wouldnt apply over the borders.

I can imagine no-one residing in Chesterfield anymore if this was the case, thousands of claims for thousands of pounds for damage to health for all of South Yorkshire. Would it be worth this risk?
