If the Conservatives win the election how high will unemployment rise?

Recommended Posts

With the Tories consistently above Labour in the opinion polls, given what has happened previously to employment levels when the economy was in recession, and there was a change of government and with the Tories promising huge public spending cuts.Just how high will unemployment rise?

It only needs to rise by one.

Providing that poor unfortunate signing on is Gordon Brown.

I wouldn't employ any of those muppets, not even to polish my shoes.

Who knows? Lets hope their policies have changed since they were last in control.

NORMAN LAMONT, Britain's ex-chancellor, is often reminded of a remark he made : unemployment, he said, is a "price worth paying"

The full quote is actually ""Rising unemployment and the recession have been the price that we have had to pay to get inflation down. That price is well worth paying."

It may have been tactless but back in 1991 it was correct!

"If higher unemployment is the price we have to pay in order to bring inflation down, then it is a price worth paying."

- Norman Lamont, Chancellor of the Exchequer. 1992.

John Major also said "If it's not hurting, it's not working"

Well over the course of a 12 year period of Labour government unemployment has risen by around half a million and is now increasing at the rate of around 2500 per day. Is that Labour's achievement for plunging the country into uprescedented debt?

The Tories will not save us from this mess.

But there are a lot of naive people stuck in the myopia of the two-party system that are willing to buy the Etonian salesmen's rhetoric.

It all depends on whether we continue to mask the true enemployment figure by not counting people on schemes and other ways to hide the real numbers. I can't see the Tories being any different to Labour.

Not sure where I heard it said but "different day, same ****" quite appropriate with Labout and Conservatives at the moment.

The main difference is that most Tory MPs were born to govern. They've had the right breeding and upbringing, have gone to decent schools and will have mixed with important people in industry and the financial sector throughout their lives.

I'd much rather trust them than a bunch of labour hypocrites who spend their youth as socialists bleating about social justice and fairness then as soon as they get elected abandon their principles and stick their snouts in the trough !

You mean that Tory MPs have no principles to abandon anyway ? Sounds true to me. :hihi:

Surely when employing people to run the country we should pick based upon ability, not birthright or pandering to social norms.
