Petit Chou   10 #1 Posted September 25, 2009 I would like to know, where are the best locations around Sheffield, where I could set up a camera to photgraph the night sky in timelapse.  Somewhere I could get all the tackle ready, maybe sit and have a flask of coffee, and let the cam do its thing while I keep warm in the car.  What are your fave locations, or do you know of any typical "haunts"
 Share this content via...
Petit Chou   10 #2 Posted May 16, 2010 Can't believe there are no astronomers or photographers with a favourite little niche that's free from the artificial glare of the city....
 Share this content via...

SV500 Â Â 10 #8 Posted May 21, 2010 Basically anywhere were there is no light pollution. Â I think theres light pollution everywhere these days but Ive been all over my locality (north sheff) and found some real nice quiet places to observe from, Best not to go on your own when your carrying expensive equipment, you'd be amazed at how many drunks turn up at the worse moment : Â JJ.. Petit Chou   10 #9 Posted May 21, 2010 The Peaks, yes I guess so.. I was hoping there may be some picturesque nook somewhere nearer .. maybe bradfield?? but the car parkin spaces are tight up there. Would I encounter drunks up there then ? ..
 Share this content via...
flashcurd   10 #10 Posted May 22, 2010 Mam tor has been mentioned a few times by the national trust as being particularly dark for this area  http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=mam+tor+dark+sky&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a  It's about a half an hour drive from the city, in the peak district. Nickscape   10 #11 Posted May 26, 2010 Anywhere that is clear from light pollution so Mam Tor would be a perfect spot. You need something else in the picture rather than just stars so reflections from a lake, a tree etc is needed.  Here's one i took at chesil beach on saturday, this was about 17 minutes and then the battery ran out. It was around midnight i think so the sky still had a little light which gives the colour cast, at around 2am it is much darker so there will be less colour.
 Share this content via...
