When is the earliest you would plant autumn garlic

The organic gardening catalogue is offering 450g packs of bulbs.

Anyone be able to tell me how many bulbs that would be?

Not sure if I need more than one lot.

Probably 3 bulbs. I ordered from their a few years ago and buy the time I'd split them up and planted them I had 50+ bulbs of garlic come harvest time.

Hi,

 

I planted my garlic as above at the beginning of November, its outside on my balcony int he Cty Centre, and Its started to shoot already!! is this bad? I didn't think it was supposed to do anything yet!

No that's good, it'll be fine. It's doing better than mine which has shown no signs of doing anything and I'm worried it's just rotted in all this rain.
