Ginger Daddy   10 #5 Posted September 16, 2009 can anyone remember what this used to be before we had 0114 2????  I think you will find the area code for Sheffield is 0114, and NOT 0114 2.  Why do people think this? Just because every single Sheffield number used to start with a 2? You dont dial 6 digits to get a Sheffield number, you dial 7 digits, and therefore 2 is part of the number and not the area code.  GRRRRRR.... Ginger Daddy   10 #7 Posted September 16, 2009 If that make's you go GRRRRRRRR then you have some serious issues  Its one of my bugbears. There are recent threads on the subject.  For example people who put 01142 xxx xxx on signage. Its just wrong and gives a "small city" mentality: people cant handle a big phone number.  Leeds, Nottingham, Leicester.. have very similar area codes changed over at the same time as us, but you never see the same thing happening down there. I wonder why?
 Share this content via...

I wonder why?  yes me too, was just thinking this the other day when i saw it spaced out with the "2" included in the dialing code on the side of a van. some numbers now start with a 3 so does that mean its "01143" too?
