Paul2412 Â Â 10 #49 Posted August 21, 2009 A4E cream the ones that stand a chance of the top again. They should get the real alcoholics ,kids with attitude, prople that react to her attitude (like the guy who went home to get his dog and go back and wait for the tutor). People with major family problems. Hope these are shown in later programs. No they won't cos they can't make money. Â They are a business at the end of the day, trying to make money. Why would they take on people who don't stand a chance without rehibilitation?
 Share this content via...
sheffsal   10 #50 Posted August 21, 2009 did none of you see how the women progressed!!!!! they arrived looking l haggled, as if all the life had been sucked outta them n then as they progressed they changed how they dressed, their personas changed from accepting their lot to motivated, inspired women ready to tackle the world. Yes Hayley did come across harsh - its her job to make these women think about their lives and what they want from it!!!! A reality check!!!! left to bring up kids on benefits wouldnt be their first choice for themselves. slowly over the weeks the women do grow n blossom. Stop focusing on the negatives of harsh hayley and focus on how she did indeed improve the womens lives.  the benefits system is a joke - people get paid too much for doing nothing and are allowed to claim indefaintly - change the system - make it harsh - claim benefits for 6 months only and only if you have paid tax, lower the amount payable or give vouchers or credits then lets see how long people sit on the idle backsides!!!!! sheffsal   10 #51 Posted August 21, 2009 What new skills? I assume they can read, write and follow basic instructions. For a job somewhere such as Poundland you don't need much else. Simply telling them how its everyone else's fault isn't going to get them into work. A few home truths obviously worked much better.  patience, team working, communication skills, customer service skills and dealing with difficult people - all needed to work in such a place as poundland - all lost when you single, bringing up kids alone, with not much chance or money to socialise with others
 Share this content via...
BasilRathbon   10 #52 Posted August 21, 2009 I once did a two week trial working in Poundland but they let me go as when people kept coming up to me and asking "How much is this, pal?" I didn't know the answer.
 Share this content via...

blacksausage   10 #54 Posted August 21, 2009 Maybe Frek does not have children, but for her to imply that the mums in the programe were sitting around on their asses all day doing nothing whilst claiming benefits is insulting. As a mum of 2 (with a husband) I know that bringing up children is a full time job. Doing it on your own must be even harder. The benefit system must be changed to make it feasible for mums to go back to work. If the woman with 4 kids even had her top up increased to match her benefits level that would atleast get her foot in the employment ladder whilst saving the taxpayer some money. Â I used to agree with that whole heartedly. However, I now believe that the primary concern should be for the children of families on benefits. Whatever you say about these families, it's not their kids fault that they live that way. If you said "right, 6 months is up, fend for yourself", chances are the parents still wouldnt work, but would struggle by on less and less, resulting in the suffering of their children. Â Whatever you think about these people (and chances are their kids will turn out the same), IMO you can't say "get a job or starve". lyndsayx   10 #56 Posted August 21, 2009 It just about sums this country up when that mother of 4 quit her new job because she was better off on benefits. What a completely retarded benefits system we have!  I was under the impression that if you quit a job voluntarily you aren't allowed to claim as you've put yourself in a jobless position? I know they were only on a trial, but there was a chance of a job out of it.
 Share this content via...
James1980 Â Â 10 #57 Posted August 21, 2009 This programme to me just highlighted what a shower of s this government/ country really is. Why am I in full time work paying for these people, that women with debt had so much more in her home than I have got... I feel it should be a hard struggle if your on benefits, it's a cycle there kids will grow up on benefits as they don't see their parent/ role model go out to work. Â Instead of paying these people to have treats like Virgin TV (full package) smoke 20 a day and drink They should have their rent paid direct, and vouchers for food which doesn't include alcohol or other treats that you'll end up paying for whilst they make a burden on the NHS service! They should be shown it's tough on benefits and to show an example to their kids that that's not the life they should aim for when they grow up. Instead the kids will just have same attitudes as the mothers, get pregnant stay at home and it works out better than going to work... Maybe if more people got off the @rses the country wouldn't be in such a debt, crime, state it is in!
 Share this content via...
ukdobby   224 #58 Posted August 21, 2009 The whole benefit system is a complete mess, why should 17/18 year old chavs who have no aim on life get off their idle arses and do a days work when they get their spending money of us idiots. The scum on the Fergie programme the other night when asked if he was bored hanging around at night supping Stella which we paid for said now i ain't bored but its **** round here, now if this turd got himself employed and earn't a bit more cash he could maybe do a bit more than hang around street corners then maybe he would't find life so ****. grafikhaus74   10 #59 Posted August 21, 2009 (edited) IT Skills from a computer course, these are very useful in todays jobs market. Very expensive way to spend taxpayers money, on home truths. I never saw one structured classroom based session during this programme  Quite. This was just one of many 'made for TV' programmes that fill the screens these days - Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay, Apprentice, Dragons Den etc. etc.  Take some raw material and all ends happily. Except it doesn't.  The harridan 'running' this course (Hayley Taylor) made Pauline and her pens seem professional. 'Life is like a battery - it has positives and negatives', 'you're like butterflies, turning from an ugly caterpillar into...' and on and on and on, ad nauseum.  The best was related to one of her 'clients' (for which read conscripts). 'She could sell sand to the Arabs'. This was upon getting a 2 week, unpaid trial at Poundland.  Taylor was vastly over made up and, if she can decide the destiny of so many people's futures, why can't she shift the 5 stones that she clearly needs to?  Sure the 'students' were pretty poor but we all have different backgrounds, problems, experiences etc. and this one-size-fits-all garbage benefits only Emma Harrison and the delusional, desperate and poorly paid fools who work for her.
