I was born and bred in Essex, moved to Sheffield only last September, but would like to say I love it here. I moved up here for work and dont see myself ever going back.. Its so different up here. Very true what they say - Northerners are nicer! (Bar a few exceptions!)

Agree Leoni that folks up North are friendlier. In 1971 I spent 10 weeks on a training course in central London and had to commute daily from Chalk Farm to Victoria. I found that most of the people I came into contact with at work were not Londoners but outsiders who were originally from elsewhere in this country or abroad. Many were friendly enough, particularly the Northerners, once they got to know you but they often lived such great distances apart that socialising was near nigh impossible. On public transport and outside work nobody spoke and if you tried to start a conversation you were looked on as an oddity. I also encountered agressive behaviour on the streets ,even in those days. Altogether a very alienating place, enough in fact to put me off wanting to work there.

Once an owl, always an owl.

My partner lived in cornwall for 2 yrs and came up to sheffield for EVERY home match as he buys a season ticket every season.

Completely with you on this one, people in London dont even make eye contact with strangers, let alone have conversations. I thought moving to a city (Sheffield) would be similar, but its just a different way of life. No rush like there is in London 24/7!

I certainly dont see myself going back any time soon. :)

born in the nether edge hospital in 1959 so yes that qualifies me for a sheffielder
I was born at Nether Edge in 66 a good year ime told so that makes me a sheffielder. A true Yorkshire man.
