Does anyone suffer from Urticaria and/or Angioedema?

Recommended Posts

I hope there is someone out there that knows about this!

I started with the angioedema in may. My feet swelled up, but went the day after. I then had itchy feet briefly in June, and a little swelling, but again it went soon after.

On the 8th of July, my feet swelled up, and i couldn't walk on them as it hurt so much. Then my hands, fingers, arm swelled up. I then started getting raised blotchy red rashes, that would come and go in hours. I have had them since the 8th. They start small, and increase in size quickly. They are hot, sore to touch, and very itchy. They can be very painful.

I was admitted to hospital when the swelling started, and they had no idea what it was. They did loads of blood tests that came back negative while i was in hospital. I am waiting for some more blood tests to come back, and have an appointment on the 26th Aug.

I am currently taking benedryl. It is getting me really down. I saw a doctor when i came out of hospital, and he said that it looks and sounds like urticaria. I have been doing some research online, and i too think it is this.

Is there anyone out there who has or does suffer from this? I have had it for 3 weeks now, and apparently it can last up to six weeks and go, or long term.

Any advice/stories, would be appreciated, as i am really down.

i have suffered with urticaria for just over a year, can say i have suffered, your condition i would say is urticaria.. i am now allergic to water, and have been for the past 6 months, i can no longer wash or wash my own hair or wash my own pots, it's frustrating and depressing, i have been told to keep taking the tablets, i see a dermitologist for a year now, and there is nothing they can do for me, i am having to have carers in cause i can't look after my self every day, i am sorry to say there is no quick result or cure, and yes the raised itchy spots can come and go, and it took me 2 months to get to see specialist and again no quick cure.. best thing i have had is combination of drugs, fexofenodine, and ranitadine, which actually are not for skin condition, but they have given me best release of condition, i am starting another which i can't rem as not got them yet, . my body as started working against my own body, my best advice to u, is see specialist and see where it goes but sorry no quick cure as i said...

I was told not to worry about my face, and tht it would never appear on there, and i aint had it on there, the raised blotches etc, although of late my face swells, and lips and being given epi pen just in case, apparently i have a certain kind that can't be cured so far, no meds but the fexofenodine and ranitadine give me a repreave, but if i touch water my hands are swelled and painfully red, and cause me great pain, and the only thing that i have found to work is steroids to give me a break, cause i want to bang my head in pain,

my allergy to water as been a great shock, cause i never thought it would happen, and changes my life considerably, as it is just so natural to be in water, heat is a major factor, and find it diff to have heating on, or be warm anywhere, as i itch terribly, i usually get the spots anywhere from my neck to my toes, but the worst part is my hands and bottom of my feet, i just cant describe the pain, or the discomfort,, good luck to every one, and i just hope u don't get like me x.

Does anyone suffer from aquagenic urticaria, I've recently been diagnosed with this and can't lay down in the bath, if I shower I have to jump in and out to wash it's a nightmare! Basically I'm allergic to water, docs have told me to take antihistamines which I find sometimes help, I've been told its a very rare form of urticaria and wonderd if there was anyone else in sheffield with this? When my torso becomes in contact with water hot, cold, swimming baths, rain, sweat I get a very itchy red rash all over my back cheat and stomach that last for up to 2 hours!!!

My niece's cold urticaria was brought on really quickly by water, and would come up in the pattern of the raindrops if we were out in the rain. Thankfully as she has grown it has passed and it's no longer an issue, so it affected her from about 12 months old until she was about 6.

You have my sympathies Leannepaige.

Glad she grew out of it :) thanks for the info, I've had this for 2 years now but is starting to get worse, I'm 20 by the way so not sure if I will 'grow out of it' as they say. Hopefully someone will be able to advise on any medication etc :)

As I posted on the other thread markfor, I think you need to go and see your GP and tell them about this. It needs recording on your notes that you should never be given penicillins again, and you need to tell every doctor who takes your history that you can't be given them too.

In the mean time, over the counter antihistamines should start to ease the itching so I'd suggest a visit to a pharmacy backed up with a GP appointment.

I hope you're less itchy soon :)

I had pretty bad angioedema from around 2015 to 2018, when I lived in Sheffield. It was mostly kept under control with Fexofenadine. Then I left Sheffield in 2018 and it went away completely. I had no idea why, but I suspected air quality, given that I'd moved somewhere with much better air and nothing much else about my life had changed. Then to my surprise I recently came across some new research showing that ozone is a cause of the condition: http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/0194599819846446. AND... Sheffield's main pollutant is... ozone! http://aqicn.org/city/united-kingdom/sheffield-devonshire-green/

So... it might seem drastic but perhaps the cure is to leave Sheffield!

You could also check for sources of ozone that you can control. Loads of electronic items create ozone. One example is 'ionic' hairdryers, but there are plenty more.
