Guderian Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Why did only one or two "outsiders" reply to this thread?? For my money -Owls. Although that is ebbing away with time.
mogwai84 Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 I'm a Southend United fan and went to Turkey the other week. One of the waiters asked who I supported and I said "Southend United", and he went, eh, "Sheffield Wednesday?". Says it all I reckon!

Chop Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 I believe Wednesday are still classed as the bigger. Our stint as a top side in the early nineties and Hillsborough formerly being one of the best in England is the reason. United have been mediocre for years. Even abroad, foreigners say 'Sheffield Wednesday' if I say I've come over from Sheffield. Have to disagree here, just got back from Australia and when ever I spoke to the convicts about sport and they asked where I was from the first team they mentioned was United but then recalled Wednesday and several matchs the Owls have played in the all be it distant future ( cup finals ect ecet ect ) when I told them I was Wednesday. Personally I put itdown to the better run the blades have had in the past 10 years and basically the higher profile they've attained of the two teams in the city. Sad but true.

Plenty of Uniteds in the Championship this season they might get confused and know Wednesday more next time you go
Chop Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Plenty of Uniteds in the Championship this season they might get confused and know Wednesday more next time you go Definately 'cos hopefully I'll be there again for the Ashes tour next winter with a FO size England flag with some sort of Wednesday moto or slogan across it
