Billy Casper Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 I don't think people from any other city think of either united or wednesday as a big club. What does seem to be clear is that they have noticed the rise in stature of united and the fall from grace of wednesday. Rise in stature? You mean finishing higher in the championship than usual? Get real, most fans don't give a flying f**k for teams outside the top flight, to which United have been a part of just 5 times in 33 years!
scottf Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 I would say that of the older supporters 35+ then wednesday would definately be known as the bigger club for sure but the younger generation will definately see united as the bigger club due to our cup runs, our stints in the prem and i just we have simply just had a higher profile than wednesday over the past 10 years.
Stockers Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Wednesday are known world wide because of what happened with the disaster, horrible but true. I made exactly that point a few months ago and i believe i was reported by yourself for doing so, hey ho, horses for courses eh
Stockers Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Who are these so called fan's what your talking about, ive also lived all over the shop including Wales, Chester, Chesterfield, Manchester, and believe me even now Sheffield Wednesday are the first team off peoples lips generally when Sheffield is mentioned and there's no doubt about that whats so ever. Nationally where known as "the Wednesday" to a lot of other fan's where as if someone would mention "Sheffeld United" when it came to the Blades, it would be Sheffield United due to about 30 other club's sharing your name ahahahahahhahahaha, you don't half talk some pony Corker, in 20yrs of following the Blades and Sheffield football i can honestly say i've NEVER heard another football fan 'nationally' refer to you lot as 'the Wednesday' - get your head out of the sand and in the real world my friend. Wednesday are far better known these days for their fall from grace, a la Leeds style.
leviathan13 Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 If someone says 'who do you support' and you say Wednesday, they know who you mean. You say United and they think Manchester, which is unfortunate, considering Sheffield United were the first club to be called United. Won't that just be because there's only one team in the entire football league with Wednesday in their name? Congratulations on your individuality of being named after a day of the week!

ShotoKarate Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 I might be the first 'outsider' to reply to this thread ..... As a north eatern boy (SAFC for my sins) I always saw Wednesday as the bigger club (it might have been because I had a great great uncle who used to play for Wednesday - Jimmy Spour? - in the 20s/30s) and United as the more ..... obsessed!!!!!
