MR BENN
apart from us owls and blades ,i wonder who fans of other clubs see as Sheffields "Main " club? and before this turns into a `we`re better than you ` debate ,lets take our blinkers off and look at it from the perspective of clubs and fans from outside Sheffield . As a member who has lived in many places in the uk. I would say over the past ten years United are the first named club associated with Sheffield, some older folk would still state the Owls ,and Hillsbrough with its reputation of a then massive semi final stadia. Never under estimate Sheffields standing in the UK football community, the first question ever asked when its known your from Sheffield. You United or Wednesday. BUT THE ANSWER YOU NEED IS : THE BLADES

AltyOwl
I believe Wednesday are still classed as the bigger. Our stint as a top side in the early nineties and Hillsborough formerly being one of the best in England is the reason. United have been mediocre for years. Even abroad, foreigners say 'Sheffield Wednesday' if I say I've come over from Sheffield.

You say United and they think Manchester, which is unfortunate, considering Sheffield United were the first club to be called United.

AltyOwl
Wednesday are known world wide because of what happened with the disaster, horrible but true. That's another reason unfortunately. Wish people would move on from it though. Fair enough we can pay respects, but a big deal is made every year, but we hear nothing about Heysel. It's a disgrace to be fair, as that was just as bad, if not a worse disaster.
skeggymart
I don't think people from any other city think of either united or wednesday as a big club. What does seem to be clear is that they have noticed the rise in stature of united and the fall from grace of wednesday.

Who are these so called fan's what your talking about, ive also lived all over the shop including Wales, Chester, Chesterfield, Manchester, and believe me even now Sheffield Wednesday are the first team off peoples lips generally when Sheffield is mentioned and there's no doubt about that whats so ever. Nationally where known as "the Wednesday" to a lot of other fan's where as if someone would mention "Sheffeld United" when it came to the Blades, it would be Sheffield United due to about 30 other club's sharing your name
