Advice on perfecting this windmill picture please

Recommended Posts

I recently took this on a trip to Holland. I really like it and want to get it framed up but before i do i want advice on getting the most out of it. Its a JPG but i do have the RAW original so i have some scope for playing.

I like the composition but feel the sky could be more dramatic. What would you alter ( i have PS CS3).

Some of you are good on PS so all advice is welcome.

Have you thought about putting the mills in colour?

well the picture was in colour but i like B&W. Personally i don't like a BW colour mix. Thats just a personal preference. We have a wall of BW pic from around the world (bought not taken by me) so i wanted BW to fit in.

Seemed a shame to buy pics when i can take a reasonable shot myself.

Only other thing I could think of doing was maybe playing with the clouds a little bit, and make a shape from them maybe?

I'm no good with this kind of thing really, I like the natural raw images as they are :)

How about making the image slightly blurred apart from one windmill?

I could do it and show you what I mean if u like?

If you could move the rightmost windmill a little further to the right.... :)

Nah, I quite like this as it is, nice one.

That would be quite easy....or why not remove it all together?

I personally don't like the composition. I know its courses for horses, but its really unbalanced and quite boring. would you be happy to re crop it? or does it have to be landscape? How about something like this?

Hmmm, I have read that using channel mixer may be better than just BW conversion so i may try that. I just think the sky could really be bought out more.

a bit more contrast would be my preference, there aren't enough light/dark tones and it's a bit 'muddy'. Try the b&w conversion tool in cs3 and then add a slight S-curve over the top of that,
