donkey
I recently bought a yamaha 16 track digital recorder, and a keyboard including basic drum kits and percussion effects to make recordings together with guitar. I have since been given an Akai S2000 sampler from the late 90's which should make things a bit more interesting, but on looking at the manual, I realise it will take ages to use properly. I suspect I may be wasting loads of time and effort, and that it will be easier and more productive to get rid of the sampler and recorder and swap over to recording on a computer. The thing is, I've only spent £300 on the 16 track and the sampler was free. What I want to know, is, will I be able to get impressive sounding drums and electronic samples recorded to a high standard with this set up, without it taking forever, or could I get something much better and less complicated for recording and sampling on a computer, but without spending a lot more? Any advice would be greatly apreciated.
Ghozer
If your keyboard is midi, and depending on the capabilities.. as for a computer solution, you would require a decent ASIO sound card, and possibly one that supports soundfont samples (for better / more realistic sounds over midi) which can run into the 100's for the sound card alone. it depends on the rest of your setup, your recording equipment, and mixer etc... i'd be happy to come and take a look, advise on setup and do some trial runs with you if you wish.
