Berberis Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Saw this last night and I have one word to describe it: Rubbish! Bloated, stupid in places and has its own Ja Ja binks moment. I cringed a number of times watching this. SPOILERS BELOW Introducing a human looking cylon .. I mean transformer made me want to shout at the screen. That coupled with the stupid sidekick and that Megan Fox seems to be there (even more so than before) purely for decoration. This film is terrible. I would seriously encourage anyone who is considering going to see this film. Save your money, its really not worth it.
Frohike Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Just seen Transformers2, I thought it was fantastic. So many more characters than the 1st. Good to see main characters returning aswell. Good atmosphere in the cinema, not often Ive seen people clapping!!
JFKvsNixon Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 I cannot think of one thing that would make ever watch a Michael Bay directed film. He leads the list of the worst ever directors. With Paul W. S. Anderson and McG following close behind him.
Jason Bourne Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 I cannot think of one thing that would make ever watch a Michael Bay directed film. So you're not interested in fast cars, big explosions or hot women x
JFKvsNixon Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 So you're not interested in fast cars, big explosions or hot women x Hell yes, but call me old fashioned as there has to be some sort of plot and not just endless car chases followed by endless explosions followed by endless ladies in bikinis.

So it's like Bad Boys 2 with some extra-terrestrial robots thrown in? x

Some are better than others: Bad Boys was perfectly fine, though Transformers' only saving grace was Shia LaBeouf, who's a surprisingly charming, capable, non-pretty boy actor; the rest was robots hitting each other, which gets terribly dull after a while (unless, perhaps, you're a bloke of a certain age reliving his 80s youth). Paul W S Anderson did Death Race, I think. What's not to like about an oiled-up Jason Statham? McG. Nope. Even I can't defend his output.
Beakerzoid Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 I cannot think of one thing that would make ever watch a Michael Bay directed film. He leads the list of the worst ever directors. With Paul W. S. Anderson and McG following close behind him. I'm with ya on Bay. He started well with The Rock, and Bad Boys was not too bad either...but then he began to get tons of cash thrown at him, churned out trash like Armageddon, and has become a parody of himself. I gave the first Transformers a watch and despised the purile drivel that he gave us. I will not be wasting 2 and a half hours of my life watching the second film (especially given the responses of audiences leaving it at the end of the shows last night). Anderson - Mortal Kombat, Event Horizon, and Death Race are okay (Kombat was exactly what you should expect from a computer game adaptation, and Death Race was just bloodied up nonsense which used real cars rather than CGI...quite refreshing. Event Horizon was disturbing and creepy, and I'd love the extended cut to surface one day) The rest of his output (Shopping, Resi Evil, Soldier, AvP) all garbage. However I have more respect for him than many other directors simply because he makes the films because he loves the source material - having a passion for the subject. Directors like Michael Bay only care about the money the film will make (Bay famously dismissed the Transformers project, saying he wasn't going to make a crappy toy film, before realising how much cash it will make and contacting Spielberg again). McG - I've not seen Terminator Salvation due to my dislike of his direction and style of films (the trailer put me off even more). He is great when acting as a producer on TV shows such as Chuck or Supernatural, but that's as far as it goes.
MikeyK Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 I liked it - I was actually really suprised! Much better than the unnecessary Terminator Salvation and the mess that is Wolverine - as far as the big budget blockbusters go! The new Transformers weren't really used enough though, just there for the sake of it - and it was WAY too long (Half an hour coulda been cut out purely on closeups of jets swooping in, military base personnel giving commands etc!) And I can live with Megan Fox being there for decoration (especially in the many slow motion, close-up running toward the camera scenes lol) Hated the Twins at first, but liked them toward the end. If you liked the first one, you'll love it.
