The Mush
It may depend on the experience of the teacher but the current Musicians Union recommended rate is (i think) £25.40 per hour. Most private instrument teachers i know charge in the range of £12 for a half hour lesson. Hope that helps.
MTheo
prob £20-25 for 45minutes i'd say.

LukeD
You could find them a bit cheaper (couple of quid) but it depends on whether you're happy with who you've found.
MTheo
cool thanks for your replies. ive been quoted 15 per half hr so would you say thats too much for a decent teacher? Sounds ok, just remember the time is short, so concentrate on learning, don't get in friendly chats as this eats up your time haha (sounds daft but I got into too many discussions with my guitar tutor years back and it didn't help my wallet or my learning) p.s. a good player doesn't always make a good teacher, ask for an introduction lesson, maybe do the same with 2 or 3 teachers to find one you think is best for you. libero
hmmm sounds good! thanks for your replies. what would be involved in an introduction lesson and how is this different to just having one normal lesson with each? thanks again
MTheo
hmmm sounds good! thanks for your replies. what would be involved in an introduction lesson and how is this different to just having one normal lesson with each? thanks again A lot of people simlpy offer an introduction lesson (eg your 1st lesson) for free or half price, no-one wants to pay for a bulk set of lessons when you may not like the person or how they teach. Ask whoever you get a price from if they are willing to do this, and let them know that if you enjoy/learn you are most likely going to be having many more lessons at full price .... equivilant to a loss leader for them.
