What's this on Neepsend Lane?

At the top end of the site near to where Neepsend Station was, were some old tunnel entrances (which appeared to go under the bank toward the station area), i would imagine these have been filled in now.

But inside these openned into a larger underground brick arches supported by cast iron columns. On the floor were narrow rail tracks, which ran off under the station (but this was further blocked off by more recent brickwork). I know years ago coke was probably converted to town gas on this site (with the coke brought by rail (hence the giant hoppers near to the kart track, on the opposite side).

Does anyone know if this mystrious tunnel linked with the Neepsend Power Station or anwhere else under Parkwood Rd in that direction.

I think the tunnels might be part of the Ganister mines that were here several decades ago.

Thanks for all the info!

Here is the pic of the gates to the Transco site entrance on Parkwood Road. Note the initials on the gates.

Below is the view from the bridge, looking towards the city. I looked to see if there was any possible way to get down to track level to get a better view but it looked impossible! Also, the area had a very sad eerie feeling to it so I wanted to get back to civilisation as soon as possible.

How much use does the railway line get, if anything passes through? Bearing in mind I know very little about this part of Sheffield!
