oscarcainer
Hello There's gonna be an ace night of music down at The Shakespeare (146-148 Gibraltar Street, Sheffield S3 8UB) for only a fiver. Groanbox are a North American weird hybrid band that combine roots music from the U.S. with African guitar, gypsy music, Latin rhythms, all stewed together in a New Orleans gumbo with a dash of Appalachian moonshine. They play a lot of unusual instruments, including a fretless banjo made out of a vegetable, an accordion with a unique modified sound, a yew tree log hit with a hammer and the self-made Freedom Boot, a pine staff with 420 freedom Larger bottle tops screwed into it and a boot attached to the bottom. There's some videos on youtube.com/groanbox and myspace.com/groanboxmusic that show you what you could be in for (My favourite is Shards Of The Journey). Tom Baxendale is also playing, he's from Sheffield and he plays great stuff, sort of dark and brooding country folk with a bit of danger to it (myspace.com/tombaxendale). Hope to see a good crowd out there! Oscar x groanbox.com P.S. Have a look at the videos, I edited them for the band, let me know what you think?!? oscarcainer
I guess this band and night is for women only as as the band is called groanbox:hihi: Women are certainly welcome! Groanbox is also another name for the accordion though, along with squeezebox. Squeezebox doesn't sound quite as pleasurable though...
