Insight into the Mind of A Composer with James MacMillan CBE

As part of the University and Cathedral Summer Festival

 

Discussions with leading British composer James MacMillan CBE, interspersed with performances of his choral works by the Choir of Sheffield Cathedral.

 

James MacMillan CBE is one of today's most successful living composers and is also internationally active as a conductor. His musical language is flooded with influences from his Scottish heritage, his Roman Catholic faith, social conscience and close connection with Celtic folk music, blended together with influences from Far Eastern, Scandinavian and Eastern European music.

 

First becoming internationally recognised after the extraordinary success of 'The Confession of Isobel', his prolific output has since been performed and broadcast around the world, placing him in the front rank of today's composers.

 

Sheffield Cathedral Choir are the city's only professional choir, with a reputation as being one of the finest cathedral choirs in the land. As well as providing music for worship at the cathedral, they often undertake concert engagements. regularly broadcast live on BBC Radio 3, and have made a number of commercial recordings, all to critical acclaim.
