I cant view videos on YouTube on my iPhone

Recommended Posts

Hi people,

I got a iPhone 2days ago and everything has been brilliant with it. But since yesterday YouTube wont work anymore.

It lets me search for videos but all the videos show as 0:00 and when I select one it just says "YouTube videos require a cellular or WiFi connection"

Whats happened?

its preferable to be connected to wifi if not you would need at very least a strong 3g connection as it would take far to long to download i would think. pop back in to cpw or o2 where you purchased it. if it doesnt have an o2 sim in it then that could be where the problem lays.

If your phone isn't showing 3G then it's not worth it anyways. The signal indicator also just seems to show whether there's 3G or not and not actually how strong it is. Best when using wireless anyways.

Restarted and its still doing the same

as I said above, you'r either not in a good 3G reception area, or your 3G access has been restricted for some reason. EDGE isn't fast enough for Youtube and thus will cause problems and not play at all.

the blue circle means it's on EDGE, which isn't 3G, that could explain why youtube isn't working as the EDGE network isn't fast enough.

The E means EDGE, pretty sure the O is standard GPRS so the slowest of slow.

Seems the O means online/connected, I did some testing...

I had '3G' showing, and loaded up safari and it changed to an O, then exited safari, gave it a couple of minutes and it was back to 'O'

I also tested this by disabling 3G and using edge and it did the same.

I was told the O was edge by a friend, and I didn't think he was right, but he's had an iPhone longer than me (only had it for 4 days, and i'm now cursing that I didn't wait 2 weeks)
